Last night, lying awake far longer than I wanted to, I found myself thinking about all the names people give to certain connections.
Twin flame. Soulmate. Karmic partner.
Destiny.
I honestly don’t know.
Maybe we are twin flames. Maybe we are not.
There are certainly signs people would point to. The timing. The lessons. The way we trigger things in each other. The strange roads that somehow keep crossing again.
But after everything I have lived through, I am less interested in labels than I used to be.
Because last night reminded me of something much simpler.
I couldn’t sleep.
Hours passed.
Eventually I got hungry.
At some ridiculous hour of the night, I was given my beloved olive bread, toasted in olive oil, and the last of my fav alphabet soup.
And I remember thinking how absurdly good it tasted.
Maybe it was the food.
Maybe it was the kindness.
Maybe it was both.
And later, when my mind still wouldn’t switch off, I curled up against his chest.
I may or may not have drooled on him slightly. 🫣
I refuse to provide further evidence.
But he handled the situation with remarkable gentlemanly dignity!! ☺️🤣
And then he did what he always does.
He stroked my hair.
Slowly. Patiently.
Without trying to fix anything.
Without asking me to be different.
Just gentle fingers moving through my hair and across my head, over and over again, until my thoughts became quieter.
Until my breathing slowed.
Until sleep finally found me.
He always does that.
He keeps stroking my hair and my head until I fall asleep.
Such a small thing.
Such an ordinary thing.
And somehow one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me!!!
This morning I woke up thinking about how much time we spend trying to understand what a connection means.
Is it karmic? Is it spiritual?
Is it written in the stars?
Is it a lesson?
And maybe those questions matter.
But maybe they also don’t.
Because when I look back at everything that has happened, everything we have both done right and wrong, everything we have learned and everything we still don’t understand…
What stays with me is not a theory.
It is a moment.
A very ordinary, very human moment.
Feeling safe enough to rest.
Feeling cared for.
Feeling like I didn’t have to carry the entire world by myself for a few hours.
That is becoming increasingly rare.
And perhaps that is why it feels so precious.
It is also surprisingly difficult to live something beautiful while feeling the eyes of the world watching.
Some people celebrate it.
Some question it.
Some envy it.
Some try to pull it apart.
But none of those people were there last night.
None of them tasted the soup.
None of them felt the quiet.
None of them know what that moment meant.
And perhaps they don’t need to.
What I do know is this: After all the karma, all the healing, all the searching, all the lessons and all the spiritual language…
A warm bowl of soup.
A safe chest to rest on.
And someone gently stroking your hair until you fall asleep.
That feels far more real than any label ever could.
And that is what I wish for every one of us!
Not perfection. Not fairy tales. Not labels.
Just someone whose presence allows your heart to soften.
Someone whose existence reminds your nervous system that it can finally rest.
Maybe that is enough.
Maybe that is everything.
With care,
Lee
