The wound of self-abandonment in sex

The wound of self-abandonment in sex, intimacy, and relationships cuts deeply, often leaving scars that shape how we navigate love and connection.

For many, including myself, the romantic entanglements of my 20s dragged me into the shadows of my psyche, where self-abandonment festered. The ache to be chosen, to be loved, and to escape the weight of my circumstances was overwhelming. I believed, somewhere deep within, that a man’s validation through intimacy would rescue me from the gnawing fears of brokenness and inadequacy that haunted me. These fears, lurking in the corners of my mind, dimmed my ability to trust my own power to create, to manifest, to shape my reality in alignment with my dreams. This lack of self-trust led me to partners who mirrored my insecurities—men who didn’t trust me, who manipulated my sense of reality. I see now that I was a willing participant in these dynamics, even as my shadow and subconscious pulled the strings. Those relationships took me to dark, desolate places within myself, places I never want to revisit. Breaking free from this cycle meant owning my role in it, a painful but necessary reckoning. Releasing these trauma-driven patterns—where my addiction to suffering recreated the same heartbreak over and over—forced me to confront the shame I carried. Shame about the choices I made in love, sex, and partnership. Shame about my desires, my sexual preferences, even my fetishes. Shame about the harm I caused myself and, at times, others. This shame was a heavy anchor, dragging me away from self-trust and toward self-abandonment. Through my fierce commitment to healing, I’ve come to understand that shame around sexuality stifles our ability to trust ourselves. Where shame festers, self-abandonment thrives, and we attract experiences that reflect our inner doubts, especially in the vulnerable realm of intimacy. Sexuality is primal, tied to our very existence, our essence. When we let shame taint it, we disconnect from the purity of our pleasure and our sacred connection to the Divine.
Restoring sexuality to its rightful place means honoring it as a profound, human experience—a gateway to collective healing and spiritual reconnection. By releasing shame, we reclaim our sovereignty, rebuild trust in ourselves, and open the door to deeper, more authentic intimacy. This journey isn’t just about healing; it’s about embracing our power as creators of our own lives, unapologetically whole in our desires and our divinity. ~Ancesttal Healing
